In response to customer demand, the company also introduced multiple styles of both colored and silkscreened bamboo rugs, and switched from a specially- treated natural fiber backing to a non-slip rug pad backing on all rugs. “We had an extraordinary year in 2005 and were thrilled with how well our indoor/outdoor bamboo rugs performed,” said President Darryl Gold. “But we didn’t want to rest our laurels. While the specially-treated natural fiber backing on our rugs proved to resist mold, mildew and water as advertised, we thought switching to a non-slip rug pad backing would be a super value added feature for the consumer. They don’t need to pay an extra $20 to $50 for a separate rug pad to protect their rug and keep it in place. Plus, the non-slip backing resists water, mold and mildew equally, if not better, than the backing we used last year. Now almost our entire collection is indoor/outdoor.” The company also debuted bamboo and teak office chair mats. Featuring two-inch wide, ¼-inch thick slats, and multiple layers of polyurethane coating, the mat offers an upgrade in both style and substance to the usual utilitarian vinyl mats. “There is really nothing else like it in the marketplace,” Gold said. The Deluxe office chair mat, available in teak, rubberwood and bamboo, is actually three solid pieces held together by interior hinges that disappear from sight when the unit unfolds, which allows the mat to lay flat by drawing all three pieces together, and eliminates the threat of scratching the floor underneath. To further protect the floor, selfadhesive felt pads come with the unit.
